Help support the Leeds United Fans Foodbank

Supporters' Trust urges supporters to bring goods ahead of Watford clash.

The Leeds United Supporters’ Trust are urging fans to bring an extra food item to donate to the Leeds United Fans Foodbank which is situated outside the East Stand ahead of home matchdays.

The Foodbank will be open from 1pm ahead of our match against Watford on Saturday afternoon, with volunteers on hand to take generous donations from supporters that will help to support vulnerable families and individuals throughout Leeds.

The two foodbanks located in Leeds, supported by the Leeds United Fans Foodbank, are asking for donations from match goers as it prepares for an expected surge in demand for food parcels this winter. There are a number of reasons for the increased demand with the end of Furlough fast approaching, zero hour contracts and the gas price increases. This means that some families may have to make incredibly difficult decisions between eating and heating - a decision no-one should have to make.

The foodbanks, which relies on donations from the public, serves outlets all across Leeds including Belle Isle, Beeston, Holbeck, Seacroft and Gipton.

The Leeds United Supporters’ Trust kicked off the food collections at home games back in 2018, with volunteers from each foodbank present, and the product donations from Leeds fans have helped to provide over 50,000 meals and have helped to raise over £100,000.

Thanks to the volunteers’ ongoing commitment and the donations of many, including Leeds United supporters, the Leeds South and East Foodbank was able to move to a new premises in November 2020 in Millshaw. These new premises have allowed them to increase capacity, resilience and safety.

To help with the expected increase in demand at the foodbanks, fans are urged to bring at least one item to home games, which can include anything from tinned goods, custard, UHT milk, tea, coffee, hygiene products, biscuits etc.

Foodbank development manager, Nathanya Laurent, said: "I think it is going to be a very busy winter and unfortunately we see these difficult choices all the time and have done for many years, but we’re really grateful for the continued support we see from Leeds United fans week in, week out – every item donated makes a difference to someone in our community.”
