EAST STAND RE-DEVELOPMENT

Plans for re-development are unveiled...

Leeds United today unveiled the plans for the proposed re-development of Elland Road.

The proposals include a 350-room hotel complex in the South East Corner of the stadium, a covered arcade along the rear of the East Stand featuring shops, bars, and restaurants, and extended and improved facilities for the club's thriving Conference & Events business.

A new Superstore and office block are also included in the plans, along with a nightclub, all situated at the North East corner of the stadium.

The plans, which are in keeping with Leeds City Council's own proposals for the re-development of the Elland Road area, will be available for public viewing at Billy's Bar at Elland Road at the end of this week at the following times. Friday (Oct 31)10am - 5.30pm and 7.30 to 9pm; Saturday  (Nov 1) 10am to 5.30pm; Sunday (Nov 2) 10am to 2pm.

The proposed re-development wouldn't involve an increase in capacity, but the club could consider further expansion to support the city's ambitions to be included in any World Cup bid for 2018.

It's envisaged that the new development would create in excess of 200 jobs.

Leeds United chairman Ken Bates said: "Football stadiums are used for 25 days a year to play football, it's important not to forget about the other 340 days you don't play football.

"This is another step for us towards ensuring the ground is not only used all year round, but is a place where people want to come."
