Preview: Leeds United vs Rotherham United

Whites back at Elland Road on Saturday.

Leeds United face Rotherham United at Elland Road on Saturday afternoon (3pm), as both teams head into the final third of the season.

As the Sky Bet Championship campaign hots up at both ends of the table, this West vs South Yorkshire encounter is important both teams in their respective battles to secure maximum points.

The Whites are currently third in the league standings, one point behind second placed Southampton. The Millers are bottom of the table, but with games in hand, they are hoping to reduce the gap to Huddersfield Town in 21st spot.

When the teams met earlier in the campaign, Crysencio Summerville scored earlier in the encounter, before Hakeem Odoffin equalised on the stroke of half-time to ultimately secure a point.

Leeds now return to league action having been away from home in the Emirates FA Cup last time out, facing Plymouth Argyle, and overcoming them in extra-time to progress in the competition.

Daniel Farke’s side come into the match having won their last five league matches, in a run that has seen four clean sheets secured from those five successive victories. That form secured the boss January’s Sky Bet Championship Manager of the Month award.

Leam Richardson was only appointed as head coach in December at the AESSEAL New York Stadium, and is looking to improve the fortunes of his side. They are yet to win since the turn of the year, but have picked up important draws in their last two away fixtures.

A win for the Millers on Saturday wouldn’t see them change position, but they would close the gap to the teams above.

With the league table so close, Leeds could finish the weekend in the top two, stay where they are, or end it in fourth, all depending on Saturday’s scoreline along with results elsewhere.
