Ethan Ampadu: It\'s Something You Dream Of As A Kid

Leeds star set to captain Wales for the first time

Leeds United star Ethan Ampadu will lead out Wales for the first time on Sunday, as the Dragons face Slovakia in Trnava.

Ampadu who captained Leeds 23 times in the second half of the 23/24 campaign, has already amassed 51 caps for Wales, since making his debut against France in November 2017.

After naming his squad recently, Rob Page informed the media that Ampadu would captain the side for one of this month's two international friendlies.

With one eye on Wales' next chapter, Page would go on to say that "Ethan is definitely captaincy material and he is definitely one for us in the future as well.”

Speaking at a press conference ahead of the Slovakia game, Ampadu spoke of his pride at being handed the armband for the game.

"It's definitely a big opportunity and one I'm very grateful for. It's a really proud moment for me and my family, and it's something you dream of as a kid."

"It's a massive achievement, one I won't take for granted, but putting that aside, we've still got a game of football to go and win."

"The second half of the season I wore the armband for Leeds, so that's probably helped ease the nerves a little bit.

"It's a weird thing to say, but though I'm wearing the armband, I'm just going to try and do what I do every game, I'm not going to try and be any different just because I'm captain. That's just the way I am and how it should be."

"Fortunately, every captain I have had, has been amazing, whether that's leadership, what they do on the pitch, off the pitch, how professional they are."

"I'm quite fortunate that with Wales and my club teams, that I've played alongside a lot of great captains. I could name every single one of them, that I could take a little bit from."
